This class is an introductory storyboard course that focuses on the basic drawing and staging techniques used in the animation storyboard profession. Class HW exercise are designed to simulate work environments to help prepare students for the job. Topics such as storyboard languages, pipeline, drawing tips, character acting, screen direction, staging, composition, cutting & exploration of different types of story genres (gag, cinematic) will be covered in the in-class lectures & demos. This is a great class for anyone who wants prepare themselves for the TV animation or feature animation industry as a storyboard artist.

TIME: Tuesdays and Fridays, 7:00PM - 9:00PM (PDT)  
START DATE: June 13, 2023
DURATION: 10 Weeks* 

(This class meets twice on Tuesday and Friday nights for a total of 4 hrs. per week. Week 4 of the class will meet on July 3rd)


RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE: 

- Vis Com 1: Dynamic Sketching
- Intro to Figure Drawing
- Analytical Figure Drawing
- Head and Hands Drawing
- Figure Invention for Animation


MATERIALS: Computer, Wacom or Cintiq, Storyboard Pro (highly recommended) or at very least Photoshop
INSTRUCTOR: Samuel Szymanski & Sharon Sun

Samuel Szymanski is a story artist currently working in the animation industry. His past projects include "Ben 10", "Lost in Oz", "SuperMansion", "Wacky Races", "Big Hero 6", "She- Ra: Princess of Power", "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", and the upcoming film, "Kung Fu Panda 4".

Sharon Sun is a storyboard artist that specializes in action adventure shows. Her past projects including "The Adventures of Kid Danger", "She-Ra", "Blood of Zeus", "Ark: The Animated Series", "RAID: Broken Shards".
