This foundational color design course focuses on the design of lighting and color palettes for animation productions. Students will learn how to observe and understand how color and lighting works through studying nature around us. After the studies, students will experiment and push their color designs based on these foundational skills learned to create paintings that are rich in narrative mood yet grounded in a relatable reality. (This class is taught with both digital medium & traditional demos)

DURATION: 10 Weeks* - meets twice a week on Thur & Mon
RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE: Intro to Perspective, Vis Com 1, sketching for Environment, Intro to Color.
MATERIALS: Computer, Wacom (or Cintiq), and Photoshop. Traditional gouache medium optional.
INSTRUCTOR: Mike Hernandez is a very experienced animation Production Designer/ Visual Development Artist that is well known for his bold use of color, lighting and depth in his work. Some of his past projects include “Sinbad”, “Spirit”, “Shrek 4”, “Bee Movie”, “Monsters vs Aliens”, and “Turbo”
