This course focuses on the practical use of 3D & 2D mediums to create a finished environment illustration for presentation. Students will learn how to use the 3D software, Blender to create a simple 3D geometry base and use Photoshop to complete rendering the image to a high level of finish. This is a great class for environment designers who wants to improve on their image finishing skills and create strong environment painting for their design portfolio. This is a must take class for anyone who is interested in designing environments for game and 3D film productions (Optional software are Octane, Modo, & 3D Coat).

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE: Intro to Perspective, Vis Com 1: Dynamic Sketching, Sketching for Environment, Intro to Digital Painting
MATERIALS: Laptop, Wacom, Photoshop, & Blender.

INSTRUCTOR: Nicholas Schumaker is a Senior Concept Artist at Insomniac Games. His past projects include “Marvel’s Spiderman”, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”, & the TV show “Arrow”.



BLENDER BASE REQUIREMENT (PC/MAC SPECS): 

-6.4 bit dual core 2Ghz CPU with SSE2 support

-4 GB RAM

-1280x768 display

-Mouse, trackpad or pen+tablet

-Graphics card with 1 GB RAM, OpenGL 3.3

-Less than 10 year old computer 

(In the interest of having a smooth experience in any 3d program, we wanted to give the suggestions below on what you would need to run Blender smoothly.)
