14 Composition & Cinematography with Marshall Vandruff

This class will start with the basic composition principles of 2D design, visual style consistency,and how to use it for visual storytelling. As the class progress, Marshall will introduce new elements such as movement, camera, timing and film cinematography into the mix. There will be many examples given though films to illustrate how other directors and cinematographers compose and evoke emotions through the use of their staging and shot compositions. HW
assignments include illustration thumbnail studies and film shot by shot studies. This is a great class for anyone who wish to expand their compositional design vocabulary and see image making in a new light through the eyes of a visual storyteller.

INSTRUCTOR: Marshall Vandruff has been instructing students and professionals for over 25 years. He has taught composition workshops at studios such as Blizzard, Disney, Black Isle Studios, Rockstar San Diego, and Insomniac Games. His teachings has influenced many talented artists such as Justin Sweet, Vance Kovacs, Chris Appelhans along with many of our instructors at CDA. Marshall is well recognized by many one of the top instructors on the subject of composition.
