23A Story Development for Animation with Matt Jones

This class is focused on the process of storyboarding for feature animation. The class will discuss story and character development, as well as the technical aspects of handling a camera as it applies to storytelling. By the conclusion of this class the students will be able to study and breakdown film sequences into storyboards, develop a character that drives the story and create a story – from the early writing stage to the final storyboard presentation.

TIME: First class on Tuesday, 7:00PM - 11:00PM (4 Hours) 
Second ~ Eighth classes on Sunday, 6:30PM~10:30PM (4 Hours)
START DATE: Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, 2019 (rest of class meets on Sunday)
DURATION: 8 Weeks* 
RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE: Vis Com 1: Dynamic Sketching, Analytical Figure Drawing, Sketching for Environment, Costume Gesture Drawing, Intro to Storyboard, Cinematic Storyboard 
MATERIALS: Laptop, Wacom, Photoshop required
INSTRUCTOR: Matt Jones is a storyboard artist/head of story who is currently working at Netflix Animation. Matt have worked in the animation industry since 1995 at studios in the UK, France, & United States. His has credits on feature animation films such as "Corpse Bride", "Arthur Christmas", "A Monster in Paris", "ParaNorman", "Inside Out", "Finding Dory" and most recently "Maya and the Three" for director, Jorge Gutierrez at Netflix Animation.

No Class December 1st  (Thanksgiving Weekend)

(This class requires a minimum of 15 students enrolled by Saturday, Oct. 19th in order for the class to run. If the class does not meet the 15 student limit and need to be cancelled, we will announce the news by the night or Oct. 20th.


*Due to reasons such as instructor sick day, family emergencies, storm, earthquake, fire, flood, or other unforeseen circumstances, Concept Design Academy reserves the right to push any class back 1 week in schedule if necessary. Students are strongly recommended to plan their schedule with some flexibility in mind to avoid schedule conflicts. 

*** Limit one seat purchase for each class per student. Multiple seat purchase of same class will not be honored. ***
