This foundational gouache painting course focuses on the observation, understanding and design of lighting and color to create immersive landscapes. Students will learn how to see and understand how color and lighting works through the study of nature around us. Through the studies, students will compose, experiment and push their colors based on these foundational skills learned from this class to create paintings that are rich in narrative mood yet grounded in reality.
(Since this is an online class, there are no in person group painting sessions required. But the students are encouraged to paint outdoors weekly to try the lessons taught in the course.)

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE:
MATERIALS: Computer, Wacom (or Cintiq), and Photoshop or equivalent. Traditional Gouache Painting Supplies (paper, paint, brushes, etc.)
INSTRUCTOR: Mike Hernandez is a very experienced animation Production Designer/ Visual Development Artist that is well known for his bold use of color, lighting and depth in his work. Some of his past projects include “Sinbad”, “Spirit”, “Shrek 4”, “Bee Movie”, “Monsters vs Aliens”, and “Turbo”
